Cant Decide On Airpump, Help Me!

I have been a bit ebay happy recently and without thinking purchased a beasty air pump for upto 300l with twin outputs. It works great and is really quiet. Today the postie delivered another package and now I have realised I purchased a hydor airo 4 (coloured internal air pump) aswell!!! I love the hydor airo (have no 1 in my juwel tank), but just set up the no 4 and it's really noisey!!! Anyone know how to silence it? Really wanna keep it, but my boyfriend will go mental when he hears the noise it makes

Can you over oxygenate a tank? Tank is 260 litres.

ha ha you accidentally bought 2 pumps! god i wish i had as much money as you lol just kidding.

often the noise from air pumps is because they are vibrating against somethng, try putting a small towel or something underneath or around it, it might muffle it a bit.

The hydor is inside the tank!!! Not sure the towel will work there I'm planning on selling one of the pumps!!! Ooooooooooh I like the pretty blue bubbles on the noisy one tho! Maybe I can muffle my boyfriend with the towel tip?

i think that sounds like a great plan though, i might try that tonight

Can you over oxygenate a tank? Tank is 260 litres.

Gas exchange happens at the surface of the water. Airpumps oxygenate by disturbing the surface with their bibbles, very little O2 gets into the water directly from the bubbles themselves. Usually the return from a filter is enough to disturb the water surface making airpumps redundent.

Unless you have a special need, or you have no other water movement, airpumps are un-necessary, unless, of course, you like them!
