canister filters

I plan hooking my UV to a canister filters one that will pump 125 I plan putting a valve in the tubbing to slow the flow down to 75gph what should i put in canister filters i heard that stuff grows in canister filters and pods can somebody help me on canister filters for saltwater i thought about running it dry. and just as as pump but i want to keep stuff of the bulb in the sterilizer.

Just put a couple of sponges to keep the floating particles down and allow the rest to rmain empty. The empty compartments can be used for treatments in the furutre like carbon or ROWAPHOS and of course the extra space is great for keeping pods and sponges etc.
I would place the UV on the outflow of the cannister filter, i did this on mny old tank and it was very effective.
