Ok,

Some time back i posted a message saying that a guppie giving birth would not eat its own for a periode of 48hrs because of a chemical given off by internally.

Well thats bull, I have just seen one of my females giving birth and as soon as they came out all rolled up they went back in as dinner.

Dont trust what you read by university professors.

so scooped her out and put her in the breeding tank. but she was to quick. she managed to eat i en every two. i only saved around 5.

I hope they are all males..

:( I agree, my guppy had over 50 babies and all i have is 4 left, all the other fish were round her waiting for them to arrive and ate them all. i could`nt do anything cos i didnt have a breeding box. :(

This my sound mean but its survival of the fittest in my tank. I have 12 guppies in total and about 8 fry swimming around. Two more female guppies are ready to give birth and maybe 4 fry will survive out of those two batches. My LFS wont take anymore Fry right now so its hide or be eaten in my tank.

:( My female guppy who just had her babies has just died and so have the babies cos i cant see them in there anymore. I think keeping them in a breeding net is cruel anyway, we should just let nature do its thing............

Hey Fozzy Wozzy Woo i would`nt mind seeing some pics of ur tanks sounds like there going to be interesting ;)

I have seen the mother guppy give birth and turn around and eat her fry.
But also seen fry swimming around and the mother in the middle taking no notice.

Yes they will do anything for a free meal! This is why I recommend some plants in your tank or breeding appartment if you do not want all the fry to be eaten! :) Java moss is ideal

Also flat rock on top of each other is good.
Thay hide in the cracks.
I have a lot of rock in my main tank and can allways see a few fry hinding thier.
I also have a lot of plastic plants i one corner of the tank with a bit of wood right up against the plants.
The fish can't get in but the fry can.
