Can You Please Recommend Some Cories For A Beginner?

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and advice everyone!

My tank is so much better now as I haven't lost a single fish since my last post on this thread 3 weeks ago!

I've not got 10 neons and 8 cardinals, they look really pretty and healthy.

As for the corys, I ended up getting 6 bronze corys, some are bigger than the others but they never fight.

I must say its the best decision I've made in getting fish as I've fallen in love with them! They are so cute when the swim up to breathe or look for food. They would be digging the gravel for food almost 24/7 or play with each. Sometimes they would even swim up to the leaves of one of the plants and eat the food there! lol :)

The only problem is with feeding the corys. Whenever I feed pellets or wafers, the other fish seem to get to it before it sinks to the bottom. So I tried feeding frozen worms to them and they don't seem to take it too well. They'll eat 3 or 4 worms in one go and then most or all of those worms will come out of their gills immediately! Is this normal? Whats the best way to feed the corys?

They look happy and healthy so they must be eating enough, somehow!

Sorry for not posting earlier...been busy setting up my new 240L tank, which I plan to get more corys for! :)

Glad you are enjoying your cories. With six bronze you will probably see a matting spawn dance. The larger with a round tummy would be a lady; the small slim ones her fellas.

Sorry I don't know anything about worms and gills. Just watch you don't overfeed, and it doesn't stay on the bottom to rot.

Hi jollysue, I'll check their tummys to see if I've got some males in the pack as I seem to recall they all had round tummys! Also, is it true that after having a cory in your tank for a year or two, it starts to grow fat? I've noticed that at LFS, where the fish (eg. corys) in their "display" tank often look healthier and fatter than the ones they sell.

I was also wondering what you feed your corys? With the worms, a lot stays on the gravel, but only for about 10-15 minutes, because whenever I check back, it will be gone! I just don't know what food to best feed the corys which they can easily eat, as they stay on the bottom digging for food all the time!
