Hello

This is my fsecond post ! ! ! (first post was in the wrong place  )

I am really interested in puffas and really would love to get some, have got a 3ft tank which has nothing in it at all at the moment (not even water) And want to know how to go about setting it up for them, and the things i will need to keep them, ie all equiptment ect ect.

Is there a difference between freshwater and marine? ?

I hope someone can help.

looking forward to meeting some of you !

I wannapuffa!
I am far from being any kind of an expert, but for starters you can read the pinned info at the top of the Oddball's instituteand figure out what kind of species you "wanna" go with.
Love your name, wannapuffa, lol!

Freshwater fish live in freshwater, brackish water fish live in water with some salt in, about a quatre that of marine, and marine fish live in full salt water and are a very specialist thing to do.
To keep any kind of puffer the tank must be fullt cycled so read up on tank cycling.
Some puffers such as figure eights etc. can be kept together but generally puffers are a non social fish and must be kept alone. Like i said, this is not always the case, some can be kept together.
If you have more than one in a tank make sure they have plants and objects in the tank which block the line of view, so if one chases the other it can swim around it and the other loses sight of it.

Puffers are a very specific fish and need a lot of reseach, which is obviously what you are doing or you wouldn`t of put this post!!
good luck
Clare

Thanks for the help guys. SO red eye, dwarfs and americans are going to be my best bet, ok got that now what sort opf care do these need. Am going to look at those sites you have given me but just incase i miss anything i thought i would ask here.

Would a 3ft tank be ok? and do i need anything special in there for them ? how do i get water right ?

A 30g tank will be fine for any of the smaller species of puffer (those under 6 inches full grown). The South American puffers would be my recomendation as they seem to be easier to keep than most and are less aggressive, 4 or 5 SA puffers could be kept in that tank along with some tankmates like otto's, banjo cats or farowellas which are low key and will not pose a threat in the puffers eyes.

I cant get puffas in my area though i called my LFS and they told me they are too much hard work for their staff. i asked if they would get some for me and they said no way !! :( anyone know where i can get some in the uk ?? is mail order safe for fish ?? sounds horrid for them i keep imagining a fish with a stamp on it, being delivered dead

Any recomendations ?

Mail order is perfectly safe, i have ordered several fish that have been dificult to obtain in my local area from Trimar in Cornwall and all have arived on time healthy and in good condition. TRIMARS WEBSITE. They curently have SA puffers, Colomesus assellus; in stock at £4.99 each, there is a £10 additional delivery charge.

What part of the UK are you in? Someone may be able to suggest a shop that is near you that does stock the fish you require.

i live nr heathrow airport, i can get brackish but thats it

Am off to check out trimar!

Thanks
