Hi there, I read somewhere that you shouldn't mix different species of clownfish but I have just seen a picture of a pair of clowns, one percula and one black and white. I have a percula and was wondering if I could get a black and white one to go with it. Mine is only about an inch and a half long and so I don't think it should have turned male/female yet. Any advice would be great. Also, how do u tell the difference between an ocellaris and a percula. They look the same to me!!! :fish:

Is it a black/white perc? if so then it should be fine. They are the same species of fish with just a simple variation in colour.

Percs have more defined blacke edging around the orange on their bodies. Ocellaris have little to none at all.

I was also told that a true perc has an additional dorsal spine :dunno:
I can see where it would be true though, because I have a true perc and an ocellaris in my tank and the true perc's fin goes down at a much more gradual slope than the ocellaris. Food for thought...

Hi Julie

I have seen some reef tanks with a mixture of Percs, Tomatoes & Black & white Clown and there have been no probs.
