I went to a local pet store to buy bamboo shrimp, which I know have 'fans" to catch food with, and are brown. They sold me two shrimp, which are clearly not bamboo shrimp upon further inspection. I will link you to pictures, but they have 3 or 4 brownish dotted stripes on their sides, and a whitish stripe down their back. They definitely do not have fans like bamboo shrimp should, but instead look like they have 4 mini claws that they used to pick up food from the bottom, they are kind of transparent, and they were cleaning my intake of the filter and heater clean of debris that was on it! What kind of shrimp are these? ALso, could you tell me info about their life span and size? I have two of them in a 36 gallon.

Thats an amano shrimp, I hope you didn't pay bamboo shrimp prices for them! 2 in 36 gallons (don't know if you meant us gallons or not, but either is fine) is great, they have a very low tank "footprint". They typically live for about 2 years, and they are fantastic tank cleaners but don't forget they need to be fed algae wafers or something similar, they can't just scavange all the time. Size wise, my biggest one is probably just over 2 inches, they females are bigger than the males.

Ive always managed to "overfeed" my fish. plus, I throw shrimp pellets and bottom feeder discs for my coreys..so they've been eating that, too!
