I got home from work last night and checked my fish as normal, all looked well and healthy as they have done since being added gradually over the last few weeks, the last being last Saturday.
When i went to feed them at about 9pm last night (4 hours after checking them before) i found my penguin tetras have what looked like shiny spots all over their body and fins!!!!!
Now the only thing i added within that time was a small dose of accu clear as the water had become cloudy over the last couple of days since i did a water change and gravel clean.
Could accu clear have caused this????
Looking at a few of my Neon tetras they seem to have a few of these spots as well, now i can guarantee they were not there yesterday or early this evening as they are to noticable to miss!!!!
Any ideas folks, could it be white spot? They are feeding well, swimming around fine and are as active as normal, not rubbing against anything or hiding away in corners, no fins clamped together, now these i know are all signs of infection so i'm a little stumped!!!!

All water stats are fine.

HELP!!!

Many thanks

Neil

No rubbing but yes they look like grains of salt.

I started treatment this morning, got the Interpet White Spot Plus, removed my carbon from the filter and and took a jug full of aquarium water out and mixed the dosage in there before pouring back in. It says i can't give a second dose for 4 days! I've also raised my aquarium temperature to just over 80C

Funny thing is apart from the spots none of the fish are displaying any other symptoms!!! ???

your doing all the right things :good: , some of my fish when they had white spot didnt inch either,
do treat the tank for 7 days after the last spot has gone, many times ive just done one lot of treatment and bam it was back.

Yep i'll put the next lot in Wednesday (thats four days from the first one!!) and if need be i'll do another one four days later!!
And i won't put the carbon back in until a week after the last treatment, i think that's right!!??

I've worked to hard to get my tank just right i'm not going to let it full apart now!!!

Hahaha snap mate! Ive added white spot plus aswel today! I was gutted when it said add the next lot in 4 days. For me all it was, was the rubbing. no white spots that I can see im just being sure. Get some aqualibeum aswel. Its made by interpet and it helps with treatment. Makes your water look green but it does the job. :good: good luck with the white spot. I'll be thinking about ya on wednesday while i do mine :hyper:

How long should it take for the spots to start to disapear after giving the first dose of meds?? As the fish don't look any different today, though they are all swimming around as normal, feeding, no itching, hiding away in corners etc.

can take up to a week to remove it fully. Just remember always complete the full treatment, Ich is always present its just you cant see it until a fish get the white grains of salt. When ive had Ich in the past i always continue treatment 1 or 2 days after all the visible signs have gone.

Ich is always present its just you cant see it until a fish get the white grains of salt.

This is completely wrong. There is absolutely no evidence to support the belief that ich is everpresent. When asked about this, Peter Burgess (who studied Ich for his Ph.D) stated it is complete rubbish.

For facts, rather than myths, about ich I recommend reading this article:

Well as long as i get rid of it that's the main thing!! I just couldn't believe that it appeared from nowhere within 2 hours!!! no symptoms nothing just spots boom!!!! They all still seem really healthy as well!!!

Well i'm due to do my second treatment tonight, but the good news is the spots seem to be falling off my fish!!! My Penguin Tetras only have one or two left on their fins now, their bodies are clear!!! Hopefully i caught it in time, they all seem to be very happy still and eating well!!
