Can This Be Saved?

I found a new 55 gal. aquarium that has a chip in the edge of the side glass where its connected to the front glass at the corner, the chip is pretty deep and the shop owner says he wouldnt trust filling it with water. I can have it for $50.00 us but I am not familiar with the forces of water weight on the glass. Any suggestions?

i'M pretty sure you can get a bare 55g tank brand new for close to that price...
