You can tell the difference, the true perc has much more black in between the white stripes while the ocellaris (false percula) has very little black, except to line the white stripes - think Nemo

With juvies, it gets a little tricky, especially with tank raised. I have a tank raised very small true perc and he has his foremost white stripe completely developed. When I got him, he barely had any of the middle stripe and no dorsal stripe. In addition, he didn't have that black line along his fins. Now, after a couple of months, his middle stripe and dorsal stripe are developing, as is the black on his fins.

Amphiprion Ocellaris
Common Clown, Percula Clown

There has been much debate on whether there is a similar, but distinct species called A. Percula. In fact, this is a very colour-variable fish and the two are probably one and the same species.

Thats what caused my earlier confusion.

Percs are reported to have brighter colors, and the two don't redily mate, thats all I know.

if you want corals, think about massive lighting, like 250 watts
I have a 20L and I have a few soft corals in there now and they're doing fine 130w PC's. it doesn't need to be massive unless you're doing hard corals, then you might want halides, but it doesn't have to be that many watts because the tank is only 12 inches deep, plus sand. All of this, unless you want really demanding corals.
