Can tank "overhang" an inch on each side over shortish stand?

The entire weight of the tank is supported by the bottom trim, not the bottom glass

Overhanging tank = bad idea

I'm tempted to let it hang, however putting a sheet of plywood won't break the bank and it will be a nice weekend project for me and my son to get it and paint it so it matches the stand. Win win.
