Can Someone Please Let Me Know What Is Happening To My Plants!

I wouldn't test for Mg. Usually you dose it and see if things get better. I have some epsom salts you can have when you get the plants. If you want them that is. Its MgSO4, or you can get it from Target I think. Its cheap. Plaster of paris can be used for calcium...

If you are curious about your tap water. Here If your not on that map, just assume you have the average for that area. Those readings are 6 years old, but our wells don't change very much.

Thanks a lot for that!

I am however about 5 miles north west of New Richmond, but I think the link you provided me will do.

(Well Water)
Iron ~ .002
Copper ~ .5
Nitrate ~ 0 ppm
pH ~ 7.5 - 8.0
Total Hardness ~ 200

Not sure what I can make of these, but for the more experienced plant people, Mikaila...lol, I hope you can make use of the info I listed.

EDIT: I will take what ever you want to give/sell to me if you think it will help with my plants...lol.

Thanks for your help, Mikaila!

Thanks again!

I gotta ask.... what is nibbling your plants? In the first post 3rd pic down something has eaten the tip off the leaf and the rot is spreading from the wound. Also in pics on this page (#23) you can see damage to the leaves, looks like a nibbler attack.

Amazon Sword leaves don't mend themselves they just die when damaged, plec's and snails have been the main culprits to damage these plants in my own tanks. Apparently the leaves taste bitter and that is why the fish/snails don't eat the whole plant, in the case of the plec he was just rasping off algae but managed to damage the leaves in the process.

I know we have similar stats on our tanks as we have spoken to try and work out this prob before, but having looked at your pics I can see damage to the leaves that isn't due to lack of ferts, the leaves look an ok colour in the pics, I find that my leaves will grow very light in colour as they stretch for the light (1 wpg) but as they get taller and nearer the light they green up a treat.

Hope your plant prob get solved soon FHM, it's been a bit of a ****** for you and I wish I had the answer.

Nick.

I do have a plec, so he could be the culprit.

I also have Cichlids but I have yet to see, in the year I have had them, for one of them to take a bite out of my plants.

I know, that kind of sucks about swords, that once damaged they will not grow back.

I have come to the conclusion that the reason why my plants are doing so bad is because of the Pleco I have. I keep seeing bits marks on the plants, and he is the only one that ever touches them! I watch my Cichlids for hours on end sometimes, and I have yet to see them even touch a plant with their mount, not to mention to actually take a bite out of the plant.

In my Krib tank, my plants are growing like weeds, and I am barely adding any ferts, just CSM+B once a week.

Also, before I got my Pleco earlier this last summer, I never really had any plant problems, they all started after I added the Pleco.

So, I have about year old, 4-5 inch Pleco FREE to a good home!

Welll, I have quarantined the pleco until I find a place that will take him.

Lets see what my plants will do; I will let you guys know in about a weeks time!

p.s. The plants in my Kribs tank are growing like weeds, and I only dose trace once a week or so.

do you think otos do this too? my swords have been popping up with "bite marks" on them every now and again, and they have curling as well, FHM have you found out what was causing the curls (surely a plec cant be blamed for that lol)?

hope everyhting is going well.

I do have an otto in the tank as well, but he seems too small, IMO, for him to do any damage.

Plecs have been known to damage plants, so that is why I am trying to get rid of him.

I have had plant issues in that tank long before I have had the otto in there, so I am nearly 100% sure the bite marks are coming from the plec.

I should know in about a weeks time.
