Can someone help me with my tank volume....

Well,
my tank is suppose to be a 55 gallon........but this is the results of using the Cubic Centimeters into Gallons formula

Volume in Cubic Centimeters is found by

cc = Lenth x Width x Height

My tank is:

30.48 cm length

121.92 cm width

49.53 cm height


SO ----


V= 30.48Lx121.92Wx49.53H

Volume = 184059.502848 cu cent

Volume = 11227.62967 cu inch

Volume = 6.49747 cu foot

Volume = 48.619 gallons

So is my tank really only 48.6 gallons.........or is it 55???



It measures......12lx48wx20h inches (19.5h capable of holding water)

Yup you are right. 55 gal tanks only hold about 48 gal of water. And this is BEFORE you put in gravel, rock, ornaments etc.

Don't you feel cheated now? I know i did when i first found out.

So, if medicating the WHOLE tank should I go by 48 gallons as the volume???

Technically, you should be treating the amount of water in the tank. But, as you've found, tanks don't hold nearly as much water as their "rating".

By the way, it seems like you did a lot of number conversion there. In case you don't know, you can also calculate volume as

LxWxD (all in inches) / 231 = Volume (in US gallons).

But the way he did it makes him look like a maths whiz!!! If you want to take the easy way, that equation will work.

But really, I went to the top of Tropical Chit Chat and used those conversions, and it wouldn't let me go from cc to gallons so I had to convert the cc into cu.in. to see the gallons........ Then I just did the cu.ft. to see what it was...
