I am a bit new to aquariums, and not sure if this is normal or not....

I’m not an expert, others will give more detailed replies, but I had something similar with my male and it was caused by over feeding ☹️. The whole ’feed what they can eat in a few minutes‘ does not apply to Bettas!

It can be :
• overfeeding
• constipation
• internal parasites
How is her poop ?
What do you feed her and how much ?

The kidneys remove fluid from the body. If not the fish will suffer of a build up of fluid inside the body.

@josh909 could you please check these points :

  • eyes that are beginning to swell and bulge
  • scales that starting to point outward instead of lying flush with their body
  • loss of color in their gills
  • clamping of the fins
  • curve developing in their spine
  • pale feces
  • swelling near their anus
  • loss of appetite
  • lack of energy and movement

I work at a fish store and I noticed that most female bettas get a stomach like that, I think it's either just eggs/food, so I personally I don't think it is anything to worry about as long as she keeps eating, but of course I could be wrong.

@Avel1896 I have a bit of a crowded community tank (20 gallons). I have 6 neon tetras, 8 corys, 2 black tetras, 7 guppies and 4 bettas (3 females and 1 chill male). I'm also attaching an image I caught of her poop.

Food I feed them:

Fluval bug bites
Hikari vibra bites
Hikari micro pellets
Tetra color plus flakes (bettas usually don't eat)
Aqueon bottom feeder tablets. (bettas usually don't eat)

(Male and dominant female seen here, along with my fatty belly girl)
