Hi guys,
My tank is 48"x12"x15" which, according to the calculators on the forum, equates to 8640 cubic inches. That's 141583 cubic centimetres which is 140litres or 30 gallons.
Does this sound right? I previously worked it out to 110 litres :S

Anyhow, the tank is stocked with:

1 Malawi (well thats what the shop said it was.)
3 Kribensis,
2 Plecs - one that will get big, one that stays small.
2 white mollys
1 swordtail,
4 Zebra Danios,
2 Neons.
2 large kissing gouramis

Is this stock level right? what's the advisable maximum?

The tank has a Fluval 304 external filter, and is 78 degrees.

But your fish are not compatible...

The 'malawi' is likely an aggressive african cichlid that would kill most of your community fish (tetras, mollies, swords, possibly the danios if it catches them). Then you need to realise that tetras and danios are schooling fish so the danios need to be in a group of 5 minnimum and the neons in a group of 6 minnimum. Next, if 2 of the kribs pair off and breed, they'll likely kill the third. Then there's the fact that kissing gouramies get to 8" and would be ok in a 30 gallon but realy need space in the upper layers for territory - but cichlids like the malawi and kribs are also territorial (though in the lower levels). Also, the water these fish preffer is all different - the malawi will want very hard, very alkaline water. The sword would like hard water too and th molly would like some salt in the water. On the other hand, the plecs could not stand salt and most preffer softer or neutral water. The tetras like acid water and the danios and kissers would appreciate around neutral water though they are adaptable - as are the kribs. Similarly, most of those fish like a protein-rich diet with plenty of bloodworms etc. But the kissing gouramies like veggies in their diet and the malawi might be a fish that must not be fed worms or meaty foods as it might develop 'malawi bloat'. Also, the plecs will probably need algae waffers and fresh veggies as well as the occasional shrimp pellet and they are usualy nocturnal so need to be fed when the other fish won't take all their food.

Basically, you need to research your fish.

Thanks for the replies.
All the fish in the tank were bought because my LFS told me they were all compatible and fine together.
I was stunned that the only thing the Malawi has attacked was the siamese fighter I had.
As for the Danios and Neons, they were in groups of 10/15 but the Danios dies, and the Neons got eaten by the Kribensis. I do need to get another female Krib to level it out though, as one pair have paired off...

I bought some PH down to make it more neutral for all the fish. I guess the LFS need to clue themselves up before advising...
