Just curious, to make sure I make my plans better as I also have a common, how long does it take them to grow to this size?

It varies, dependent on diet and water temp/quality, some are fast growing, others can grow incredibly slowly (we had a Gibbiceps that took 4 years to get to 15" in a 6x2x2' tank).

If I were you, I should take it back, and grab soething like a bristlenose.

Factor an inch an month for a juvi in ideal conditions, up to about 7-8 inches.

That's my experience.

Mine is still small and I am currently cycling a 90 gallon so he will be moved whenever I am done cycling. If I find someone with a bigger tank, I will give him away, but no point to return to the LFS because they'll just sell him/her to even smaller tank. I am not even sure they take any fish back. Hopefully he will not be a monster and 90 gallon will be sufficient for now.

An inch a month
I have the common pleco for 3 months and although it has grown, it is definately not growning in my tank that fast. He is a romain lettuce addict, but besides that he will only eat algae and catfish wafers, doesn't want to know about other veg. B-)
