I have always heard that platys and swordtails were closly related, I was just wondering if they could cross breed. I have 5 different varieties of platys and 2 different swordtails.

Someone else's post in a forum is hardly proof, but in this case, you are correct. Swordtails and Platies can cross. Mollies, Endlers, and Guppies can cross as well.

wait a minute!!! endlers + guppies, swordtails +platies mollies +what???? I highly doubt mollies can cross with guppies.

I have some sword/platy crosses. At first glance they resemble swords more than Platies, but the eyes and the slightly deeper bodies give away their platy heritage.

Guppies and Mollies are the same Genus. They can mate. Normally you will see it with a male Guppy and female Molly. Even when they can't breed successfully, they will still try. I've seen my Molly males try to mate with just about everything in the tank.

very true infact there was a case on here not too long ago where someone bred a male molly to a female guppy which resulted in fry, although they didn't live long
