I just saved one from an ick infested tank today  But I noticed one thing odd about them in general (Ive never seen a lyre sword before :*) )... the gonopodium of the males are so long, it looks like a fin belonging to a betta, which makes me wonder... can the breed?

In case the person seeing this needs a picture: http://www.greenparktropical.com/Fish/swordtail.htm

wow :hyper: ....im really not sure....they maybe can...2 inches away from the female or something  i haven't kept any lyre....be sure to treat that ick or it gets pretty bad  well good luck!!! ill definitley read this post again to see if they can.

why wouldnt they be able to breed? dont think its the same case as parrots so im pretty sure :dunno:

Ive heard of infertile male livebearers which had long gonopodiums and I did a search on google but didnt find any breeders breeding lyretail swords, so thats why I had my doubts.

Also from thos article I just found... apparently if these swordtails do breed, only males are produced. http://ww2.drywashaquarium.org:8080/downlo...Aquariology.pdf
