Hi all, I'm kind of new to the hobby and have a 20G with a Penguin 150 filter. I wanted to add ceramic rings to my HOB to add to its biomedia capabilities. Today I accidentally bought Fluval Prefilter instead of BioMax. Since it's just for bio purposes, do you think I could use the Prefilter? I have the carbon cartridge for mechanical/chemical filtration.

Thanks!

No. BioMax is what you will need to use.

Prefilter is not porous enough

Really depends what fish you have, if that tanks stocked lightly (or even just full of loads of flourishing plants), then it would be a bit of a waste of time to go out and get biomax.

Both can do the same job, biomax just does it much better.
