Can I / Should I Keep A Betta In My Tank?

Hi There,

Looking for some advise form the more experienced of you...

We have a 57Gal tank, with Bala Shark, Gourami, Tiger Barb, Clown Loach and so on - CAN we keep a betta in there? ( a single one I may add!)

I wouldn't. Tiger barbs can be nippy, and with bettas long fins they might be put at risk, you can try if you'd like, but have a backup tank in case things don't work out. Also, bettas are territorial especially to other anabantids and will fight for the water space with the gourami.

you certainly could, but i wouldn't recommend it. bettas and gouramis have nasty habit of fighting, the barbs may harrass the much slower betta and the bala shark might just out-and-out eat it.

i agree the bala shark will eat your betta!
just get the betta a half to 1 gallon tanks

One gallon, minimum. Preferably 2.5 - 5.

Ooh, good thing you asked. All four of those fish sound like trouble with a betta!
