Hi all. I would really like to get some female bettas for my 20G community tank. Right now there are 5 rummynose tetras and 10 glolite tetras. Can I add 4 or 5 females?

I also have a 55G with 3 angels 6 boesmani rainbows, 1 3 spot gourami, and 5 dwarf rainbows. Could they go in there if they aren't compatible with the 20G? I am going to petcetera today because they are having a huge sale. Buy 1 fish get 2 free.

I normally don't buy from chain stores, but I thought I would check it out and see what they have. I also want to get some oto's for my 55G and maybe some snails for the betta boys, and maybe another dwarf gourami for my 20G(my other one died recently). They also have 10G starter kits for $34 Canadian, that is a screaming deal, I paid close to $80 for mine. So if I find a nice male betta or 2 I might have to add them to the collection too

Any suggestions are appreciated.

BTW, I am willing to move some of the fish out of the 20G and put them in the 55G, the only concern I have is one of my angels is large and I am worried he will try to eat the glolites or the rummynose.

I think they should be alright in there, just be careful to not overstock. Tetras are very nippy, so I'd watch em close. Females tend to do better in tanks with only other female bettas, but I don't see why they couldnt be in a small community.

I keep a few of my female bettas in with my platies, guppies, corys, and pleco! They get on great together!

Ok,

Here is my plan

I am going to try to get 4 or 5 females and I will start them out in the 20G. If that doesn't work, I will try them in the 55G. If that doesn't work, I will get a 10G for the females. I am not concerned about overstocking. The filter that is on the 20G is rated for a 40G and I do regular water changes and gravel vacs. I am obssesive about my tanks being clean. I do notice a bit of nipping from the glolites, but mostly among themselves. The rummynose (which aren't true rummynose) don't really nip at all. When I got the glolites their fins were nipped pretty badly, but I think it was one of their tank mates at the lfs because they fins grew back, and now they look great.

Hopefully hubby will be home soon so we can go and check out the store. I have never been to petcetera. I hope they take half decent care of their fish. If not, I probably won't get anything. I don't have the time to care for any obviously sick fish. I have finals next week and the week after, and I am job hunting.

Thanks for the quick response, you guys are great
