Hi:

I've had a problem with my fishtank and the fish in my signature are the only survivors of this mishap.

Know I'm thinking of starting goldfish instead. I have 2 of them in a separate bowl.

Is this a good idea to stock catfish with goldfish? I put them together for 24 hours and they seem to get along...

Any of you experience with this combination of fish?

The water's temperature is 70.

the only problem i see is if the gf are big enough to eat the cories. gf have big mouths and can easily devour a cory and then get it lodged in the throat, causing the spines of the cory to get embedded in the throat. if the gf are small then its not a problem but you would need to keep an eye on the growth of the gf as its amazing what can be hoovered up by them. :)

gold fish are cold water... corries are tropical...

70º is not tropical temps i'm affraid - they will not do too well and will be suseptable to ilness.
and the poor bottom feeders will be surounded by goldfish poop.

also one gold fish needs 20 gallons of water and then 10 gallons for each additional fish.
that means your 20 gallon tank is only suitable for one, not two.

actually you can. The normal breeding temp for cories is around 70 degrees from what ive seen so You should be ok. Yesterday My Heater got unplugged and the temp dropped to around 55 degrees and they survived. Fortunately i realized it b4 they went belly up.

maybe you can keep them together but gf and corys do not mix. they are too small and are easily eaten.

Hi Sylvia27 :)

If your goldfish are still small, there are some cory cats that are excellent bottom feeders for their tank. What kind do you have?

C. aeneus, either bronze or albino and C. paleatus are both good choices. They do not need high tropical temperatures to thrive. Here are links that describe them:

I would trust that you know that it's never a good idea to put any fish into a tank with another fish that is big enough to eat it. And of course, you will keep the water fresh and the bottom vacuumed.

Your little frog is another matter though. I suggest that you keep him alone in the bowl, or perhaps get him a companion. They will live comfortably in a gallon or so of water if they have a little cave and some gravel on the bottom. Just be sure to keep it covered. :D

I don't really know what type of corycat I have. It's speckled. It looks a little like a sterbai, but I didn't pay that much so I don't think it's a sterbai.
They are quite big and my goldfish are pretty small so they are all about the same size.
My froggy has been with tropicals all this time without a problem.
I keep my temperature around 70.
So far, everybody seems happy...
