I wasnt "playing" with the live food, I just didnt drop the food quick enough 
The bite wound probably needed a few stitches, but I just wrapped some gauze over it and now it seems fine. And yes, bites are really very rare, aside from little nips (like the one I got) actual full fledged bites are extremly rare (unless provoked)
