I am to set up a hospital tank but I think due to cycling it would be a good idea to keep fish in there full time, what fish can I keep in there or this a bad idea?

It can be done but what do you do with the fish when a sick one needs to go into the tank? An easier way to go is to have an uncycled tank and keep an extra filter on one of your main tanks. When the hospital tank is needed, fill it with water, drop in the cycled filter and you will be ready to go.

For a hospital tank? Bad idea. You'd expose the fish to whatever the sick fish had. You'd do it over and over and over and likely kill the poor thing. Also, it would be hard to disinfect the hospital tank after use with a permanent resident.

If you're worried about the filter get a sponge or internal filter large enough for your hospital tank and keep it in your main tank. When you need the hospital tank just pull the filter out and put it in the hospital tank. When you're done disinfect it and put it back in the main tank. That'll keep your hospital tank's filter cycled.

will i need to keep the filter on in my main tank? disinfect with what ?
Thanks

i thought hospital was for raising fry and quarintine for sick fish.

Anyway whenever i put a fish in quarintine i cut some sponge from the main tanks filter and put it in the quarintines filter. I also fit in 1 biomax ring as it is a small internal.
