I've been searching a lot of the Cory sites trying to ID my Corys but so far I haven't had any luck. If I knew what they were I'd have a better idea on how to care for them. They have breed twice now already and I'd like to find other people in my area with the same Corys that I can trade offspring with to keep the gene pool healthy.

Here's a close up of one of the males:

I've also got a few pictures in my post about my Corys laying eggs, what a rush.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

C. napoensis doesn't have the marks on the dorsal and other fins. Could be C. bilineatus/San Juans. Do you have a pic from above?

Here are mine spawning. The males are also a bit fat now. I have been having a hard time telling the difference between the male and female.

They are a small, short, fat Cory.

Yes, they do look quite similar but mine aren't nearly as fat, but maybe they're still young.

Here are a bunch more picks. If you need more I can try to take some more tomorrow.

The fry at first looked like the parents (dark blotches) but some orf the 3 week old fry kinda remind me of pandas, I wonder if the female was 'messing around' except I have no pandas.

Thanks again for your help.

Actually, Kuhni might be right about C. Napoensis.

On corydorasworld.com I looked up CN and found this picture:

Now it's not too apparent but it looks like there is a black slash (correct term?) on the dorsal fin.

The C. Bilineatus picture is too dark for me to tell:

Also on planetcatfish.com I found this article and picture:

well it's definitely an elegans group cory, (I hope my memory serves me correctly about the elegans group) :p

They seem to look very similar to the C. Napoensis pictured on planet catfish, they also have the blotch on the dorsal but seem to be missing the spots on the pectorals and caudal fin. These might be due to catch location? perhaps slight variance within the species regarding the blotches.

LOL Well my reputation for poor ID's has not failed me! LOL

If you have a membership at CW, why not check with them? You could also check with PC. Same folks. :)

Perhaps I better check also! LOL

This is a link to the thread with a pic of ICEEGRL's napoensis that Frank Falcone ID's for her, and Ian did not disagree.
Comparing pics of ICEEGRL's and mine

Take care posting links to other forums, Corydad. I was just reinstated from a suspension after posting a link to a thread in TFF!

There are a lot of similarities to ICEEGRL's Cory but mine have the black slash on the Dorsal.

Kuhni's link to Planetcatfish looks darn close although due to the biological context I suppose there will never be an exact match. The tag at the Pet Smart (formerly at Super Pet) store said 'Elegans' but who really knows due to mis-labeling.

I took some more pictures this morning but am disappointed in the pictures when I crop and blow them up. This is harder than doing a human model photo shoot.

Here is mother again:

Would posting pictures of the fry be of any help?

I am really sorry. I will see what I can do. I may need a link to the pic at photobucket or something.

Right now I have fry that I thought would be the fish I have been calling C. bilineatus. But they look like panda fry. Problem is I have pandas, melini and skunks as well as the San Juans(?) in the tank! LOL

You do take great pics!

Thanks for the compliment but they aren't nearly as good as Frank's.

I'll try to get some of the month old fry.

Don't know why Ian didn't give an ID?????

Well, first response is a no on C. bilineatus and a possible on C. napoensis.

You have given yourself a high standard if you want a comparison to Coryologist. I am not going to go there. :D

#1 is C. napoensis female, I believe, although some say C. elegans. #2 is a C. napoensis male and #3 is C. bilineatus immediately prior to spawning and #4 is C. sp. San Juan.

I believe the fish in question is C. napoensis. Hope this helps. - Frank

Hm, tough call but I'm leaning toward C. Napoensis although on mine the lateral lines aren't quite as defined as Frank's. Also, the markings on mine are more blotchy. But it's close.

Is it possible that mine are a variant or a cross of C. Napoensis?

I really do appreciate the time all of you have spent on this.

Thank you.

And Frank, your pictures are just fabulous. I hope one day to be as good as you.
