my endler tank. approx 7.5 US gallons.
used to have otos but the last one passed away yesterday :(
there's about 14 endlers in there, only 2 of which are adults, most of the babies will come and go as they grow up anyway (somehow ended up with 12 baby endlers...ALL GIRLS...whats up with that??)

anyway, it's London water so the pH is about 7.6, is that too hard for pygmy corys? would i be able to keep a trio in there?

filtration is a Fluval 1, planted with half a ton of java fern on bogwood and some limp looking vallis and 4 leaf clover heh.

if the answer is yes i can, has anyone seen any around the North London area? my LFS gets limited (and sickly) stock so i'd rather go somewhere else. Wholesale Tropicals or Wildwoods maybe?

Hi Cat

Wildwoods or Maidenhead Aquatics (inside Wyvale Garden Centre a little further up the road) usually have one of the dwarf cory species in stock. You can always give them a call or email to check availability before making the trip. There are a few other smaller fish stores along the same road you can check out too

eeeexcellent
*glee*
always like an excuse to go on a visit to wildwoods hehe.

wholesale often have them, give them a ring. About your endler's, there are probably some males in there but they don't develop colour for 2 months or so, so they'll look identical to female fry.

i've had the babies for just over 2 months now and have been peering at them every day in hope!
but alas no, not a spot of colour or pointy anal fin among them :(

7.5g isnt too bad a size for pygmy cories. a trio would fit snug.i dont think the 7.6PH will be a problem. they would live happily with the endlers

well i got a trio yesterday from wildwoods
sadly one didn't make the trip home :(
(an hours drive through London traffic)
he had a strange kink in his back, not sure if he'd already been like that or something happened in the bag

oh well, the other two seem happy though, snuffling about. they're about 2cm long at the moment
so i have a tank of mini fish hehe

photos if i buy a big new camera next week (and shell out ££££) and the macro is any good heh.
why do macro lenses have to cost MORE than the camera :(

The tank gallonage means nothing to me, I work on the foot print or if you like the surface area. This is the main factor which determines the tanks capacity. Having said that I have kept and bred a population of about 15 C. pygmaeus in a 18" x 10" (surface dimension tank for the last 14 years.

C. pygmaeus are definitely best kept in groups of at least 6 and will readily breed.

they didn't have any c.pygmaeus, i got c.hasbrosus.

the tank is an aquaone 320 bowfront, about 12" long and 11" deep (roughly 11" height)
they're sharing with 2 adult and about 12 baby endlers

I would still add at least 6 if not 8 C. habrosus to that size of tank, just like C. pygmaeus they are easy to breed and will often oblige after a weekly water change.

Ian

i'll maybe go to wildwoods next weekend and see if they have some left and try for 3 more (they had 3 for £7.50, not super cheap but fine to me hehe). they have lots of different corys there, i wish i had a bigger tank!

Hi Cat

Sorry to hear you lost one little guy. Try and email and tell them what happened. Maybe they will give you a replacement when you go to buy a few more next week. You can also ask them to reserve a few for you. Their email address can be found here: www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk

Did you go to the other fish stores in the same area?

i went up to maidenhead aquatics, but they only had pandas, bronzes, trilinatus (or however you spell it), no pygmys at all.

Have you tried Wholesale tropicals they usually have C. habrosus, if not I am breeding these fairly regularly, the only set back is I am in the West Midlands. What part of London are you in.
