I had some guppies release a few babies then nothing for about 10 days then bam 72 fry between 2 fish (one had 22 one had 50). I called them premies (the few that escape before they are entirely ready some made it some didn't they were really tiny about 1/2 the size of the rest of the fry that came 10 days later and you really couldn't see them basically a little shiny streak for the body and then eyes!

Just wanted to say 'Thanks' to everyone for posting pics and advice. I've had my molly in a breeding net for the last 2 days cos I thought she was going to produce, and she was gettign really bored and trying to eat her way out of the net, and her little friends trying to eat their way in, and from looking at the pics she's no where near big enough yet so I've let her out and my tank's happy again! I guess I'm just a nervous first time mum!

Ooh good luck Sarah! It's now 4 days since I posted that picture of my heavily pregnant guppy and well, she had one fry yesterday (that I know of) but she's holding onto the others for dear life.

I just wanted to say if I'd put her in a breeding net when I first thought she was going to give birth she would have been in there for weeks and got terribly distressed. Just keep an eye on her and try to net out the fry as soon as you see them. That way there's far less stress on the mum.

My guppy's been pregnant for over 6 weeks so it's not an exact science. She has started shooting up and down the glass today which I've heard is an early sign of labour so I'll be keeping a closer eye on her today.

Twinkle still hasn't dropped anymore of her babies after the 15 on Monday, but she's still big.

Buttercup just had eggs again hope that doesn't mean I'll never get any babies off her. She's a blonde/yellow guppy so I wonder if they aren't as fertile?

the really big guppy i have is havin it fry right now! its soo kool- got in from skool after havin bought acouple of angle fish, put them in the tank and noticed that my famle guppy (people had sed that she wa gna have alotta babies cos she wos soo big!) was about half as skinny, i started gettin all upset wen i noticed there were no lil fry swimmin about but then i noticed this longish thing hangin outta her rear end and to my surprised noticed that her gravid spot was still there (about half as big) soo sum of the babies must have been eaten bi the other fish- i checked the filter and nothing- then i put her in a 70 litre tank all to herself and she had 2 baies really quickly shes had about 3 baies within the past half hour- i think this is quite slow compared to wot ive been told. Anyways im hopin 4 the best- baies look healthy and im amazed how tiny they are i thought theyd only be a lil bit smaller than molly baies but theyre absolutely miniscule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wooow- good luck wiv the fry n momma

Good to hear you're getting fry at last Liam!

There may be some fry hiding in the main tank. I thought I'd got all mine last time I let a guppy have them in the main tank, but over the days more and more appeared and in the end 9 managed to make it on their own in there.

One of my other females, Shadow who has given me 11 fry already is now very square and just taking food in and blowing it out again and also sitting in the plants, so I reckon she's not far off too When she had her last lot she went super duper thin so I knew when she'd finished and they do still have a gravid spot when done although its a lot less noticeable

I'm so jealous! I'm still waiting for my molly to have her fry. She's looked like she was about to pop for about 3 days now.....and she just sits there, teasing me. Good luck with your fry!!! Methinks I'm running out of this thing called "patience" that I keep hearing about.

Yep, mother and babies are doing well! Sadly I think a lot of them got eaten because I wasn't there to keep an eye on them but I managed to rescue quite a few. They're too fast to count!!

The weird thing is that her appetite never went away so I think that she was snacking on them herself

I don't know if she's still got more to come as her gravid spot is still fairly big and dark and she's not super duper thin like my other guppy went. We'll wait and see.

hey glad to hear evry1s gettin fry,
as i sed b4 my guppy had fry yesterday but the other fish ate the ones i cudnt rescue and then wen i moved the mum she ate the last three- nvm. I thought my albino molly was dyin yesterday cos she was really still and sittin at the bottom but then this mornin i looked in the other tank and found sum babies mollies!!!!!!!!!! Its weird that the guppy and molly had babies around the same time- I brought them from the same place last weekend..... I managed to rescue about 18 or 19 healthy little molly fry, which to be honest i prefer to the guppy fry as the mollies actually have a survival instinct and unlike the guppy hide from the bigger fish.

So the bad new about the babies guppys beein eaten had been equaled out with the little molly fry, theyve got a massive tank all to themselves. But OMG it looks allthough the other albino molly and another massive guppy are about to drop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im gnna be overrun lol- good luck 2 every1 wiv their breeedin!

Sorry about your guppy babes Liam but good news on the molly ones

My black guppy Shadow is looking very sorry for herself. She's not eating and sitting on the bottom quite often and is very square and her vent is getting really wide. Not really seen this behaviour before with my other guppies or with her last batch. Hope she has them by morning or I reckon she's gonna burst!

I just released the ones born on monday from the breeding trap in with the other 3 week old ones and they are all fine and enjoying the extra space!

lol yer he is. Good to hear that uve got another approaching the birth. I cant belive it i had my guppy giv birth yesterday, a molly giv birth this mornin, now ive just had another batch of 15 aswell as the 18 from another molly and yet another ones got into labour!!!!!!!!!!! Its crazy!!!!!!!!!!! Ive got alotta white and black fry now so im just waitin for the next lot- its hard work catchin them and only to find that u havent caught half of them! Im beein over run! lol good luck
