Can I Add A Baby Dolphin Soooooo Cute!?

yeah people benefit of the doubt here, imagine if you were a newbie, had been sold all these and came to us for help, and then got treated like this and told you were just winding us up. it's not on.

so what fish do you now have in the tank? and have you read up about cycling yet?

5 neons
5 platies
2 bumblebee gobies
2 clown loaches
1 Bristlenose plec
2 Pangasius cats (oh there so cute! they look like little sharks)
6 pygmy corydoras
7guppies (1 FEMALE 6 MALE)
a elephant nose
a knife fish
a chocolate gourami
and 2 frogs

i have followed your advice.... 5platies are left as they are hard?
what test kits are best?

right you still need to get rid of some fish

you should have about 33" of fish in there, you currently have

5 neons - 5"
5 platies - 10"
2 bumblebee gobies - 4"
2 clown loaches - 16"
1 Bristlenose plec - 6"
2 Pangasius cats (oh there so cute! they look like little sharks) - not even gonna count these, they get massive!
6 pygmy corydoras - 6"
7guppies (1 FEMALE 6 MALE) - 7"
a elephant nose - 12"
a knife fish - 24"
a chocolate gourami - 2"
and 2 frogs - 4"

that's nearly 100" of fish in there. you can keep about a third of what you have now.

the fish you absolutely cannot keep in this tank are

clown loaches, pangasius cats, elephant nose, knife fish.

you also desperatley need to sort out the mxf ratio of your guppies, that poor girl will die very very soon otherwise.

the fish that can be in your tank size wise but are too delicate for a new tank are

neons, guppies, chocolate gourami

so if you got rid of all the unsuitable fish you'd be left with

5 platies - 10"
2 bumblebee gobies - 4"
1 Bristlenose plec - 6"
6 pygmy corydoras - 6"
and 2 frogs - 4"

that would be a nice level of stocking for your tank. you shoudl really take everything else back to the shop.

if you really don't wan tto do that and wantto keep some others then tell us which ones your dead set on keeping, and we'll tell you how big a tank you need to get for them

i use the API Fresh Water Master Test Kit.

 i mean i ONLY have plattys left??

Where would you get that test kit from? i havent seen them before?

also now what would you recomend for me?

i took my fish to different shops around my area

the platies are hardy and should be alright for now.

i apologise to all for adding so many fishes! :S

once you get a test kit test that day and post your results on here, then we can tell you what you need to do for water changes and testing.

ok thankyou??? are they hard to use? and how accurate are they? what if they are bad?

no they're dead easy, you get a test tube, fill it with water from the tank, then it'll tell you how many drops of test liquid to add, it'll change the colour of the water and you've got a colour chart to read it against.

no aquarium test kits are perfect, some are horribly inaccurate, i think the API one's are one of the best.

if they're bad you'll need to do water changes to fix things, however you should be able to sort things, just post the results and we'll help from there.

ive just been looking online. What is a phosphate test for??? and do you have any idea why i have brown marks on the glass??

don't worry about phosphate for now, all you need to test for is ph, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate

not sure sorry!

You have a very valid point, I joined the site like most people for help and info. And had many helpful replies from you.

But I do find it hard to believe that a lfs could let someone buy a tank and equipment and then sell them anything like this amount of fish without first asking questions, making recommendations and generally offering help.

Maybe we need to know the name of it, and have some form of exclusion by members till they get their act together. I have been amazed by the difference in standards between local shops and their staff.

sadly i can very easily see this happening, we also don't know if they were all form the same place, teh OP has said they've visited many fish shops in the area, if each one sold them a couple of fish it could very easily add up.

not trying to put the blame anywhere, she knows she did wrong and has rectified the situation now, so now we just need to move on and help the OP to progress from here
