Are there any other home treats (like fruits or veggies) you recommend from experience?

Fish don't digest terrestrial plants very well. Marine and freshwater algae/ plants are better and easier for them to digest. However, you can still feed them some terrestrial plants. Pumpkin, cucumber and zucchini are commonly used.

Do not feed fish potatoe or onions or onion relatives.

potatoes have lots of starch that gets released into the water and causes bacterial blooms.

onions and their relatives have a chemical that can poison fish and leave a film on the surface that stops gas exchange.
