Are Bettas able to distinguish between the owner (who feeds them) and other humans? I mean, do Bettas get overly excited when the feeder comes near and not so excited when others come near?

my two boys will flare at anyone except me, think they know i am there feeder lol :good: although i my sister feeds them sometimes but they still flare at her

I know they no me. They all react in different ways to me and different people.

My betta Archimedes flares at my boyfriend (the only other human he sees). He doesn't do this with me. He seems to have gotten more used to bf now though and does it less.

My boy probably doesn't, he is in my room so he doesn't see that many different people. If I moved him downstairs where my mom does daycare he probably would start to recognize me.

I think alot of it is how people want to see it :) somtimes its nice to believe the fish actually uses its head and recognises you, after all, who wouldnt like a little appreciation for the care they give :p

Personly I think my fish are stupid and couldnt care less who fed them, are all fish the same? thats your call :)

THANKS friends for all the responses. The majority vote says the Betta is intelligent and recognises the owner that feeds. Cheers.

my betta usally knows that if i come to my room at a certain time for him its time to eat!

for guppies well they think its time to eateverytime i come in lol

SJ2K: Then you can't really, I mean really appriciate these amazing fish. Bettas have such amazing personalities. Its hard to ignore.

Every other fish it seems that they couldn't give a care if some person walked up to the tank all they see is 'human=food'. But my bettas only get excited if I walk by.

I heard goldfish can only remember 3 seconds into the past. Not sure if this is true. Betta's seem to remember their feeding spots and hideouts, and they seem to have their instinctual side, and their dumb side where they don't understand human speech. :shifty:

I was told goldfish had a nine month memory?! tho how you can work it out is beyond me. I know i have already put my view accross on this post but i just wanted to say that even my 10week olf fry know me, if i go up to thier tank and move around they all swim over to where i am an watch me not matter how fast or slow i move, but earlyer today when a friend was looking at them he moved quick and they vanished and wouldn't come back to the glass until i went over and "called" them - i so felt like the proud mum, my babies, mine! lol
