Hi,
I was given a 4ft tank 4 weeks ago and the man offered me his last 3 remaining fish from his smaller then running tank. One of which was this plec

http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l540/braveryshark/100_0208.jpg

Hes around 5 maybe 6 inches long and is now settled in the now cycled 4ft tank(used mature cycled filter) although the picture was taken from my old 2ft tank.
Ive tried looking up myself but because Im colourblind alot of the species look v similar.I think he's a good few years old and hasn't grown in the time Ive had him so Im hoping he's just a small variety and his growth has not been stunted.

Many Thanks

Gez

He's a pretty fella he does just look a little like a common pleco however his markings are unique ill have a look

ok the best i can find is a Sailfin pleco which has similar markings hope this helps :)

Great thank for your reply.

Ive had a quick search on these and Im a bit concerned about the size these are supposed to get to.

Would this mean mine is stunted then  or do they take a long time to reach adult size?

Nice fish :good:
I agree, it does look like a sailfin/ hi fin plec. These fellas are long lived, so can take a while to reach maturity, environment & diet will affect the rate of grow though.

ive never seen a sailfin that looks like that. has the right fin i guess, but those markings look very odd if its a sailfin.

Now that my 1st uploaded picture actually worked :hyper: I'll try and get a couple more later ideally one of each side of him/her.

Heres 3 more pics to see if it helps I.D plus 1 of my tank which is an ongoing project. The peppered corys give you an idea of its size.

It's an L01 gold spot plec.... pterygoplichthys joselimaianus ... lovely plecs but get similar size to your average common plec.

Agree with Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus, although I got L001 and L022 as the numbers for it. Expect 12 inches from a healthy adult.

Thanks for the replies looks like I'll have to keep an eye on him for the next couple of months to see if he grows or if hes a stunted adult.Shame to have to re home him but better sooner rather than later.
