Can anyone name this fish?

Yes, that is what it is, I used to have a few... They are red pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi) and grow to 2.5 inches (6cm) max. Males can get quite dark in breeding condition so that may explain the color difference. There are also various color strains.

Thanx, i usually like to know what fish I'm getting before I buy, but these looked so kewl I just bought'm. Now I can figure out what they're like, as in can I put them with tetras.

Very nice picture! Absolutely beautiful fish! I used to keep mine with black phantom tetras so I think they should be fine with any peaceful fish

very nice specimen! does it do the usual pencil fish thing and float at a 45 degree angle?
