Went into LFS a couple of weeks ago to get some Cardinals and got side tracked by a tank of bright blue fish which looked rather like mini- guppies. The notice said they only grow to 4cm. On a whim, I thought i would get a few to brighten up the tank, but the assistant said they were not shoaling fish so I decided to stick with my Cardinals plan and just get a couple( both males).

Now, I do have a really bad memory and I am kicking myself for forgetting the name. I am almost certain that that it begins with a G and had got something like Guyure in my mind but have found that must have been wrong. I also thought that they were labelled as G???? guppies but ,again, may have imagined that!

The problem is that I now have  a major bullying situation , one against the other, which I fear is going to end badly.

Looking for info, I have been frustrated by an inability to identify these fish. I though they may be endlers or hybrid endlers but I don't think they are. One side is half light blue, half silver and the other side all light blue. There are 2 black spots on the side. It has a blue and stripey caudal fin with ( main feature) a swordlike extension to the lower part not as significant as an actual swordtail.

Any ideas?

Gourami? Perhaps...just a guess.

i honestly cant think of anything that matches your description but what i like to do is google features of a fish until i get sonewhere lol its doesnt always work but its worth the try

Sound quite like opaline/three spot gourami to me.
Can you post a photo? Might get someway to at least a species

There is such a thing as a japan blue sword guppy, but they're fairly specialist breeding stock and I'd be somewhat surprised if you've acquired a few by accident.

Otherwise a photo speaks a thousand words. Your description could indeed fit the blue gourami, or even a blue ram. Both would explain the aggression.

Sounds like a species of livebearer of some kind... am sure I can picture it but cant for life of me remember name! Will link a few images...

To be honest, I cant picture it! Are you sure it isn't just a colour/tail variation of a normal/hybrid guppy or swordtail as the both come in lots of varieties!

Gambusia mosquito fish. They are poecilids like guppies;

If the fish is that kind of shape, it is likely the right one! They are quite common so wouldn't be surprising, however they are a hybrid between Endlers and Guppies and so every batch looks different to the next. The colour variations are really quite impressive :)
