I just had this debate with a lfs attendant. Then, when I showed her Ian's book and the picture if both, the girl said "Oh...".

My new motto in life: "Believe what you wish, even if you're wrong, if it makes you feel good." One of the ways I determine a person's level of knowledge and experience in the hobby is this - if a person tells me they keep albino Corys, Peppers and C. julii, I say that's nice and move on.

The captor? You know who collected the fish and where? If you mean the importer, yeah, right - OK - you win. lol. Like I said - but in different words, whatever floats your boat. - Frank

No the importer knows the captors. I have no reason to doubt the tale. So I don't. And I am notoriously poor with id's, so I have blind faith.

I think I actually saw them at a dinner theater last night. They looked quite happy but she needed a shave.

Eh, just a quick guess, im not really into corys so i dont really know much about them. Just had a quick guess because I have some at the place i work at labeled as julii, and they come in the bag with the sticker as corydoras julii on them, so i assumed they were.

The people labeled asterophysus batrachu, bagarius bagarius, and ageneiosus marmoratus all correctly, so you would think a lower costing fish would be identified right, guess not though

real julii is not a lower costing fish actually. It is very rare. A true julii can only be id'd by the location of capture. Catchers will say they have julii and sell them to importers as such. The julii is considered more desirable. Even when you get real juliis it is hard to prove and most assume they are mis id'd.

Trilis are very common.

It is one more of the quasi areas of the trade. Even Ian Fuller won't make a positive id of a julii that I have seen.

It is ok. You don't know and these are the things of aficionados.

I have a running fuss with Frank over my fish that I got from an importer who is quite adamant that his were collected by "his" people in the correct location. It doesn't really matter. But I have fun teasing Frank who also has an ongoing tif with the importer.

He and I are not tiffing, we are maybe playing at squabbling, but it is not serious and is now more joke than serious--at least on my end. It is a "Frank button." He threatens sudden death over mention of julis.
