I think I have a red bellied piranha in my tank but I'm not sure. I've taken some photos and was hoping someone here could maybe id it for me and let me know what it is. It doesn't have a red belly but has red fins so to speak. I've googled it and I'd say it looks like one but not so prominent red. Please if anyone could let me know that would be great.
Many thanks
Beki
I don't seem to be able to upload pictures on my iPad but I can email them to anyone who may be able to id it. Cheers

Try uploading to something like photobucket.com and then post the direct link here?

Teeth can be a descent indicator. However, the number one thing which would be necessary is to post a picture. Also, may you please provide some more info about the tank. Red belly pirahnas can reach a foot long in size and won't do well in just any 20 gallon tank.

It could be, a red belly doesn't actually get a red belly until it starts to mature more, as a juvenile they are mostly silver with some of the black spotting's.  There bottom fin will start to become red before their belly so watch for that. These piranhas can grow pretty big so if it is one it will eventually out grow the 20 gallon tank.

I suppose that answers the question, then!

Another job well done... hehe.

It's actually quite unsettling to know that you can find out those small details of our lives so easily...

I think it's publicly available, but I could be wrong. Hover your mouse over someone's username, a box comes up with postcount, join date and last active time.

What, me?

No the scary unidentified fish!

Ah OK.

BTW, are you still expecting, or has littl'un shown his/her face?

I'll probably disappear from the forums for a bit when she comes. I should have three weeks left but there is talk of inducing her early because she's a tank!
