Just wondering if any members could help me I.D my frav cory. I got it from a fish store where it was sold to me as a c.melanistius (which I know it is not). It's around 5-6cm long, is a sandy colour with a black splodge on his dorsal and is a long-nosed type cory. I call him Gomez because the closet match i found on Catfish Planet cat-e-log was c.gomezi. If anyone can help i would be very greatful because I love this little Cat to bits and i want to know what he is.

also let me point out that the red tinge on my third photo is not the colouration it is comeing from my little hydor stick-on LED light.

It is more likely C. leopardus, I got a few of them from Petsmart and fast growing in very good size.

Greetings All. I personally believe the fish to be C102, which could very well be a variant of C. leopardus. I doubt very much that they are C. gomezi, as they are not seen very often and doubt that you would find one at your LFS. Not saying it's impossible, just extremely doubtful. - Frank

Frank,

I was thinking the same thing. The cory pictured definately has a longer nose. It looks to be one of the "long nosed" cories to me.

looked at c.leopardus on planetcatfish and defo looks similar on some pics but still not seen any good matchs. il put 4 more better pics and see if that might make it easier for anyone who can chip in . Many thanks, Davey

I also tend to favour C102 against either C. gomezi or C. leopardus.

Thank you all for your replys, everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable. Im loving the idea my little mate gomez is a C numbered cory, does that make him a little bit rare? do they crop up in the pet trade very often?
My day off from work has been great while i've been posting and reading on this forum, I will probley be back everyday now. many thanks Dave

No, they are not very common. This is the first time I have seen them from anyone other then Frank or Ian. They both have an extensive collection and will have just about any cory you are wondering about.

Im well happy with my sweet little Gomez now I know what he is, I feel really lucky that i stumbled across it by accident but i am glad I have always over-filtered and kept up with my water changes. All my corys are in great condition and fed on a good mixed diet. My C 102 (gomez) is always active, pushing his head into the substrate trying to chase out any escaped live bloodworm.
I've had a request for a photo's of it to go in a book, which has pleased me greatly. thank you everybody who helped. im so so so so so happy about this.
