Ok, sorry if this is a bit obscure. Just wondering if anyone else out there has a large tank in a first floor spare bedroom or something. Not sure if my floor can take it or not.... Built mid 80s.

Errr. Thanks. :*)

Hi, Are u talking about the Juwel Rio tanks ? ;) I have the 300l in the living room, i was even abit unsure of this as all our floors are wooden and out house is pretty old. I didnt put the little feet on the bottom of the cabinet so the weight is spread out more, I've had no problems and think my floor could have taken the 400l after all, but better safe than sorry ;) lol

if you can, email me the what size of floor joists, what the spacing is on the floor joists, what is the span of the floor joists and where is the tank set up in relation to the supports of the floor joists. my husband is a liscensed builder and can do a structural analysis for you. roughly guessing you are going to have to support 1500 lbs for the tank and water. you will want to make sure that the tank is level throughout the set up and after. a peice of styrofoam about an inch thick will act like a shock absorber for the tank, giving it some give so as not to become unlevel. unlevel tanks can twist and eventually break. not the most fun to clean up after. take my word for it!

In a word....YES it can!!!

I had a 135 gallon tank in my livingroom and it worked out just fine. It sat on a cabinet stand I had built myself (I too was a licensed builder and cabinetmaker at one time).

The stand/tank sat perpendicular to the floor joists. The stand also had "feet" on it. This tank's total weight was around 1800 pounds and housed VERY big and fiesty fish so there was always a lot of movement in the tank.

IMO I would still send the info to Semper and let her hubby do a work up for you.

People. Awesome, thanks for the input! Semper Fi, special thanks for the offer! :)

After a long chat with my other half we've decided to move our 125 Litre community tank upstairs. Which gives me room downstairs for my Rio 400 which I'm getting end of next month!

Again thanks.
