I'm a little late for this party, as it sounds as if you have your worm problem solved, but for future reference and for the benefit of others I will say that it is VERY, VERY hard to get your fish to eat medicated food. Mine simply would not. What I was finally able to find, after TONS of research, was a product called Levamisol. Now, I live in the United States, and this stuff isn't generally available as an aquatic de-wormer anymore, but I was able to find a local agricultural feed store that sold it for use in sheep and pigs. Came in the form of large pills that I had to wrap in coffee filters, crush and then disolve in the tank. But as the water in my tank started to turn yellow from the medication, it worked almost INSTANTLY. Worms falling out all over the place! So, as hard as it was to learn about this stuff, and then to FIND it, I swear by it.

As an added bonus, most of the live plants in the tank exploded with growth during/after the treatment. Not sure what the explanation was there, but whatever the cause, the results were very impressive.

Yep, Levimisole worked for me too. Out of the two Bolivian Rams who had the worms I saved one of them :D

I found this liquid version which is used for de-worming birds! Just need to get the quantity/dosage right...

hey all! ive just treated two of my guppies for the same thing with sera nematol - (thanks wilder for the advice) both fish are a lot better now, no worms anymore tho they did start to flick a bit so i treated with velvet, will that be enough or will i have to treat with no 9 too? one of the guppies waste is still a little stringy? i have fed a small amount of pea in the hope this might help, is this normal for a fish recovering from these worms?

treatment for callouanus worms is usually 4-fold. Initial dose of med then a water change and a good substrate vac to remove as many 'dead' worms as possible. As far as i'm aware, the med doesnt actually kill the worms, it kind of paralizes them. And so if there were to be any eggs in there, you are best to repeat the whole thing again.

" Levamisole HCL is absorbed through the gut, can also be absorbed through the skin and is distributed throughout the body. Levamisole affects the neurotransmitters and paralyzes the worm (spastic paralysis). The fish then passes the inactive worms. Good gravel vacuuming is advised after treatment to remove the paralyzed (but still live) worms. It is not ovicidal, which means it will not affect eggs already present, but it will affect the larval stage of the worm. To ensure complete eradication of the parasite treat again after remaining eggs have hatched. "

although i am speaking for Levamisole, not sera nematol...

When did you last use the sera med. As I think I would retreat again.

Once you finished worming fish you are meant to back up with a bacterial med.

im not due to dose again until 2 weeks time, should i dose again before then do you think? i wil go and get a bottle of the no9 tomorrow and treat with that when able to do so. :)

Do the 2nd treatment like the instructions say.
The first course will kill the adults. The 2nd dose it to kill the young ones off.

Add the bacterial med now.
Good Luck.
