Some of you may have read that I have made a plan for my big ol' betta collection.

In case you haven't...
My son is 13 and I have decided to pull a "while you were out" type of make over on his room. Right now he has only 2 bettas in there - one on a little side table and one on his entertainment center. My plan is to get him some stacked shelves, stain them blue to match his bed, desk and side table, and get rid of the ugly old entertainment center.

The shelves will have about 12 compartments, and some of them will hold minibow tanks in colors like purple, lime green, orange, blue, and turquiose. My question for all of you is this... I have a good sense of what I should do with the things IN the room, but I also want to paint. I picked out 4 paint colors - orange, purple, blue and lime green. BUT... I don't really know what to do with the paint. I could paint each wall a different color, but I had actually kind of wanted to just do 1 wall. This is going to be a MONUMENTAL project to begin with and whatever I do I only have 2 weeks to do it, since that is when he's coming back.

Anyway, I thought I'd ask you early teens (or parents of, for that matter) what you think would work okay for a 13 year old kid. I don't want him to come home and think "God.. my mother is completely nuts for thinking I would like THIS".

The shelving and stuff I know he'll like. Just curious and wondering what I should do on the walls.

Thanks!

My parents did the same thing for me when I was 10 and went on a boy scout camping trip!

They painted my walls light blue, the ceiling dark blue and put sticker glow in the dark stars on the ceiling so it felt like I was camping everynight. They're still there when I go home to visit :)

With the colours you mentioned, I would paint the walls all one colour, the ceiling another, and do the baseboards and trim with the third. 4 walls all different colours may look to childish for him when he gets a bit older. He'll be 16 and asking for the car in 3 years, remember ;)

HTH and GL with the project.

Post pics?

Yeah, I know I wouldn't want the 4 wals diff. colors.

If I were him *(Wich I'm not) I would go for the orange. Last year I painted my room liume green, and it was awesome. But After about 2 months it tires the eyes. But, He might like it for longer than that, since I dont know your son.
But I'd go for either ther orange or the green.

IMO, blue and purple are more.....girly. I know that I would die, and never have anyone in my room if my parents painted my room blue and purple. Although he might like it :/ :dunno:

So, your best bet is to go with the orange or green.

Remember, this was just "IMO."

(PS, If you want some new furniture, IKEA in MLPS is having a summer sale....so its nice cheap funiture even cheaper. I love my Ikea.

(PPS, Also when my parents did my room, they bought all the stuff and let me have a hand in doing it. But, I didn't get the "While You Were Out" kind of suprise. Sounds like He's in for a treat)

Light blue walls and white ceiling and skirting boards is what I have, although I am a few years older than your son. :) It looks pretty classy in my opinion. I'm going to have to close this as it's not really what this particular forum is about, but it will be moved in a few days to somewhere more suitable. ;)
