Hi guys,

As I am going to switch from an UG filter to a Sponge filter in my Betta tank I was just wondering how you would calculate the required size air pump.
My air pump at the moment is a very quiet Interpet AV MINI and states its for use in aquarium with an UG filter of up to 18". It also says that the flow rate is 75 l/h. So in theory this must be displacing 75 l/h of water through the uplift tube?

Well in a 35l tank this is just over 2x the tank volume per hour which is obviously not as high as recommended. (5x up to 10x)
Or is there some other way of working out your tank turnover in an hour using an airpump driven sponge filter.

Either way I'm sure this will be ok for my Betta tank as he literally eats like 4 pellets a day.

Thanks,
AW
