ok here is my problem... i got a 20 gal and i heard from friend 1 gal =8lb so that is total of 160lb just wandering will 1 of those cabinet from the kitchen will be able to hold the weight? the size of the stand = 1feet x 2 1/2 feet and i almost ~160lb and it can hold my weight... but i am not sure will it hold the weight for a long period of time

1 US Gallon = 8.35 lbs
+ weight of the tank... about 20-25lbs for a 20g glass tank
+ weight of gravel/sand/rock/decoration
+ weight of hood
- weight of water displaced

As a rough estimate, you're looking at a little over 200lbs for a 20g tank probably, assuming you fill it up with about 20-30lb of gravel/sand, and add a few rocks or things as decoration that are more dense than water.

A kitchen countertop will do a lot for distributing that weight, especially if it's a 20g long instead of a 20g high, but you still might want to look underneath and see how well the cabinets are built.

I have just had a cabinet built and my mate who made mine builds kitchens, my tank is about 150l +weight on the tank +substraite and gravel etc.

He has built it with the weight in mind but he ha said i may need to strengthen it but should not need it

Check out my link in the next couple of days as i will be posting some pictures of it
