I can get the following cichlids;

Firemouth
Rainbow
Severum
Blue Acara
Green Terror
JD

What would be most suited to my 30 gallon long tank, as a pair(For the smaller species) or alone? Oh yeah, feeding will be NLS.

You could have a pair of rainbows or FM in the 30. Blue acaras may work, but in the long run may be too small for a big male (though I havn't seen one over 6" yet so might be worth a shot).
The GT, sev and JD will get too big for a 30.

I'm guessing he means central american fish (though some on the list are from south america - sevs, blue acara and GT).

OK, was kind of thinking it might be that but then I remembered Ca was the chemical formula for Calcium. That confused the heck out of me then. Like what's a Calcium fish for 30g tank :blink:

Rofl, calcium fish - the fish that disolves in water, to fix this add a tablet of Calgon to every waterchange.

Hehe :lol: That's a typo. I originally ment it to say CA but Ca?! Hahaha

Well, I've already decided what to buy :hyper: Some firemouths! I'm planning on getting several then removing the others when a pair forms.

I have two questions about breeding them;

What do th e yspawnon/wouldapiecenough?

Do they need to dig to breed successfully? Because I'm planning on a bare bottom, which is black, so with the black bottom, background and dimmed lightning, and the dark green anubias plants, I could intensify their colors.

where are you located? i wouldnt just settle for regular old firemouths. if you are located in the u.s. i know rapps has sp. mixtco blues and golds. those are some goreous firemouth relative.

firemouths are eays to breed. Have a couple of decent sized smooth flat rocks in the tank, along with a couple of ceramic flower pots. Have 1 pot stting upside down and the other pot on its side. Have the rocks spread throughout the tank. The fish will lay their eggs on the rock, flower pot or glass side of the tank.

The filters can be power filters or air operated but make sure they have a fine sponge on them and don't have them too powerful because they will suck up the babies.
