I noticed that one of my young Albino corys has developed a dark spot in its..... abdomen i guess is the way to describe it.

I just wondered if this is a sign of them maturing and if its a female. If they dont get gravid spots then im worried as its only shown up in the past few days, after some playfull T-Bar'ing.

Any help out there?

Didn't I already answer this?

No, I can't think of anything that would answer to a gravid spot, such as is on a female Betta.

I could be mistaken, but I cannot picture anything that would fit that description.

A female albino Cory of the C. sterbai, C. aeneus or C. paleatus species will get very broad and full in the upper belly/lower chest area. She will have extra padding on her white belly. She will be much larger than the slimmer males in length, breadth, and depth.

Can you get a picture.

I have been trying but corys are fast :p This is the first time iv asked this, so it wasnt me you answered, im just worried now. If you can imagine a patch of grey showing through the corys side... Il try and get a pic.

This is the best pic my GF could get:

Hey

Well, not too sure if it's got anything to do with being gravid or not, but looking at the rest of the cory, I'd say that's a female.

Carmen ;)

Should get along famously with there ne Panda friends :p

Moving all cories into a 4ft species tank soon aswell :)

Excellent.

I've gone through all my cory pics and found a pic of a female albino we had 2 years ago. She also seems to have the grey spot.

Pick isn't as clear as yours though.

Carmen :D

Well 2 of the albinos have the spot so im guessing i have 2 females and a male :)

Could be something to do with them being female . I found a pic of our male too and there is no grey patch.

:good:

Im thinking it must be a sign of them maturing or something... Might do a nice cool water change tonight and introduce the PH lowerer at the same time.

I understand the gravid spot is a live bearer thing. And that the gravid spot are the eyes forming on the fry in a pregnant live bearer.

I also thought you were referring to an "egg spot" such as female Betta have which is where the eggs are deposited from on a female Betta.

Sorry :S

I have albino peppers. I have not noticed anything on them. Although I have seen fat little Corys with bellys full of worms. LOL

Alex and Carmen's picture looks vauguely familiar. So perhaps it is the eggs, but Cory eggs are usually pearls and not dark colored.

It may just be something with the C. Aeneus breed. I have 6 albino Sterbai and none of them have any markings on them either.

I looked at the pics on I love Corydoras website and although a few of their C. Aeneus albino pics were tainted with (dyed fish) a few of them had this grey patch too.

:D

Well i did a 30% water change wit cooler water, also dropped the PH by 0.2

No spawnings and the patches have dissapeared.... Maybe it was food? They had eaten catfish pellets earlier.

Don't be discouraged. If they are C. aeneus albinos, they will spawn for you when they are ready.

The symptom of a gravid C. aeneus is a BIG belly. She will roll on it and sway in the water currents. Very sexy! She will obviously be larger and rounder than the fellas.
