Buying Sand..?

Can you buy sand from a gardening shop... is that possible

It is alot cheaper to buy it from there or is it neccessary to buy it from a pety shop..

What type of sand will i need for my tank.... freshwater tropical 3ft....

Soon to be home to...
Platy
Loach
Neon tetra
Dwarf Gourami

I have used plain play sand any sand is fine, only thing to watch out is sand that will harden your water, need to put some in a cup and put plain white vinegar on it if it bubbles then it has calcium which will harden the water something you dont want with tetras or soft water fish, Nice rocks in your tank BTW

does plain play sand harden your water or is it fine...???
