Buying my first aquarium (second hand)

I found this aquarium sold second-hand for $50 (AUD, roughly 32 USD). Is this too good to be true? Is this a scam? What is the usual price for a tank this big? Should I go and inspect it? If so what should I look out for? It comes with the stand. Measurements are 77cm long x 37cm wide x 50cm high. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

You'd pay around $150 for a new tank of that volume without a stand, so that's good value assuming there aren't too many scratches. As has been suggested, make sure there are no leaks. I see that there's good support for the tank around the edges but none in the centre, so I'd be reluctant to fill it up as is, it might break (full of water it weighs close to 150kg).

Depending on how the tank is built you do not necessarily have to support the middle bottom. Most of the tanks I have encountered in Western North America seem to be built with a "floating" bottom, i.e. the bottom of the tank is about 2.5cm from the bottom edge of the side and end glass pieces. As long as the bottom plane is thick enough, they are often tempered on commercially built tanks, the tank can have an unsupported bottom.

Like the others have suggested do a dry, no, wet run before bringing it into your home. If you are concerned with no support under the bottom you can place a thick plywood piece into the frame.

wow that's a great tank for 50 hopefully it has no leaks.

If you get it, test fill it OUTSIDE or in the garage... Cause if there is a leak you don't want that inside

I would check it first on leaks... That's first I would do when I get a used tank no matter how beautiful the tank looks.
