Just having ordered some KNO3 online, to boost nitrates i'm gonna need some Maracyn to kill off the stuff which persists in coming back (even tho i have a tank full of plants growing like the population of rabbits on viagra  )

So yeh, where to buy Maracyn in the uk and the recommended dose for a 70 litre (without totally killing off my filter bacteria)

thanks

i will beat it this time!

you cant buy it in this country. i had to buy mine from america. with posting etc. it cost me near on £35!

i've used 1 tablet killed my bga, and still got 99 left. :shifty:

Hmm thats not a bad idea!

Do you have any free Saintly?

I think my issue is a circulation issue so I have moved things about in my tank and changed the direction of the powerhead outlet and would like to see if that solves my issues before I start medicating my tank

eBay. you can get it from there. and another place but it costs more. in fact you can buy most meds and have them shipped over here with no problems. customs don't even bother to look at them. I'm not to sure why we in this country cant just buy the stuff from a pet store. its a bit like Frontline Spot On For Fleas for dogs why do you have to go and see a vet to buy that. shops don't seem to sell it where i live.

I have improved my circulation and started Co2 injection again - stopped because of faulty light unit so had to wait for replacement.

However I still have BGA :(

Will keep taking it out until it stops coming back

to be honest, when i had bga in my substrate i tried getting all levels correct. ferts co2 etc...but i could never seem to get rid of it. yes sure i could keep it under control, but i would never go.
i even had a rena filstar 2 pointed at the problem areas for weeks but still no sigmn of it going. not until i used maracyn. 1 tab into 1/8 or 1/4 placed in the substrate. then it was gone. i then got everything else stable....it never came back. its different for everyone i guess.

Hmm - I think you might be right - Im not winning.

Does anyone want to sell me some Maracyn tablets?

Thanks
Aaron

I went on holiday for two weeks and when i came back i couldnt see into my tank for BGA. Looked like spiderman had been in there testing out his new green web!

I was really worried as i had just spent £40.00 on plants and didnt want to loose it all. I did a 4 day blackout of the tank. (no peeking) and when i took it off the BGA had gone. An amazing transformation. Plants looked a bit weak but after a few days of bathing in my 4 T5s and some liquid ferts they all bounced back.

So i guess what im saying is you dont need to spend £35.00 on chemicals to get rid of BGA. do the blackout, fix your lamps and maybe put in an extra powerhead to sort out any stagnant areas. After 4 days all will be good. :good:
good luck!

I have my Maracyn now but the BGA is going away without it - have upped ferts and am sticking to the regime which I think is key.

I have also sorted the flow issues out - I think the power head was badly placed and a large plant was blocking the flow to that end of the tank
