is is moral to buy fish online then have the posted to you

please leave a comment as well as i would like to know your opinion :good: :good:

IMO not a good idea

apart from the stress to the fish I like to see the conditition of a fish before I buy it

Also like to see it feeding

It's no more immoral than buying them from a chain lfs who has them shipped in from eastern Asia, or their own farms out of state. Like anything else it's buyer beware, research the seller & take it from there.

I've had fish shipped to Chicago from New York & California without a problem, and would ship any fish I breed without hesitation.

Theres nothing wrong with getting fish online. I will be getting discus from different areas across the country. They have to be shipped. And well, as tolak said, virtually 95 percent of the fish sold at local fish stores or anywhere were shipped in bags and put in boxes to me driven or flown around the country.

I like to buy from local breeders who can deliver the fish to me. but I have bought online and so far have had a 100% success rate. overal i've been very happy with both options.

I purchase fish coral plants and inverts from liveaquaria all the time. Great stuff!

I ordered almost all of my mbuna online, as well as some tetras, they were in excellent condition and settled in better than any fish I've bought from an LFS. I would definately do it again.

buying online is fine! as said no worse than an lfs getting them shipped to them....my lfs fish arrive in big boxes and they have some of the best fish i have seen

fish by post? risking everything. you need to see the fish you buy and they need to arrive stress free. the idea of having fish stuffed through your letterbox doesn't do much for them or you. the answer to online buying? NO!!!!

Yep, posting fish is fine. A quick journey down the country is a lot easier than a journey from South America to England.
I only buy fish I have seen a photo of, or fish from a respected retailer like Tri-mar. The fish are not stuffed through a letter box, but should be packaged in a large polystyrene box with plenty of oxygen (or air), singal fish in a bag and extra bags full of warm water or air to stop to much movement.

A lot of buyers post pictures (some even videos) of the fish.
Stress free... just like I said in my previous post, fish you buy from the pet shop are sent in by post so it makes no difference.
Stuffed through a letterbox... fish are placed in packed boxes so they don't move around, often double bagged, and in colder times a heat pack is provided. Once again, lfs's get their fish by post and once again, there is no difference.
Actually, it does do much for the buyer, you can get quality fish you don't often see in the lfs.
For the fish- it doesn't get culled or stays on a breeder's shelf for the rest of its life just because people don't want to buy through shipping.

I would never buy fish online unless it was one of those "you will never see in you LFS" fish. But im lucky in that my LFS will order in anyfish that i ask for for free (as in they dont charge extra to order it in, not the fish is free) well you get what i mean.
