Hi Folks,

Just a few very quick questions for you.....

I went to my local LFS today and asked about purchasing a Bristlenose, he took me to the tank but they were all bearly less than an inch in length? (obviously jouvenile) I declined and just wanted to make sure I have things straight first

1. Whats the minimum size to buy these guys at?

2. Are they OK kept on their own or best in groups?

I've already got bogwood ready to go so any help appreciated.

Lee

an inch is fine for buying size and on their own is also fine i have 2 juniors and they fight a little but its mainly playful the maximum they got to is around 5-6"

The smaller they are the more fragile they will be but any size is fine as long as it doesn't fit in the mouth of its tank mates

I would say if i buying one from a shop id go for at least a 2" thats the smallest i sell mine at, ive got several comeing up for 3" posting is a pain though, plus its nice to actually pick one. Are they any other outlets near, i hope you find a nice one soon, di

Thanks for all your help,

popped over to Shirley Aquatics and they had some at a much better size - around 1.5", thinking about it at the other LFS they were MUCH smaller than the one i've just brought, is it best while they are growing to keep a regular supply of algae wafers in the tank? (they are in a quarantine tank at the moment)

Many Thanks

Lee

yes, you can feed them algae wafers and blanched veggies such as courgette, cucumber, peas, carrot, lettuce and apparently potato, although i've never tried that myself.

cheers :good:

Even little BNs love zucchini. :D

From experience I'd say go for the biggest baby BN you can find asthere is a high mortality rate among the very small 1,5cm ones apparently. Got my baby BN at 1in, they are now 2in and eat all veg -courgette, cucumber, carrot and yes boiled potato

Hi there. Is that Shirley near West Wickham/Croydon? If so and you are able to get to Bromley I have some juvenile long fin bn's you can have. I have just re-homed the oldest of my babies,- but there are still a number of little ones in there!

Hi. Don't want to hyjack this thread but it is a related question. A week ago I got an juv. albino BN that is now about an inch long. Love the little guy. I want to get another BN for my 60 gallon tank. Any advice on introducing a second BN. I don't know the sex of this little one. If I am not interested in breeding can I add another now? Lots of places to hide, planted and caved tank.

Thanks

There shouldn't be a problem Karin if you've got plenty of space and places for them to hide out in. Males like to have their own individual cave. Have fun choosing another bn!
