Hmm, i was just looking at the buy/sell/swap section of the forum and i have two idea's on how the section could have been improved.

The first one is to split the buy/sell/swap section into 3 sections- i have noticed that a great deal of people who try to sell/rehome/swap things or fish on the section are either from america or from the uk. I think it would be quite helpful to those wanting to buy/sell/swap etc things on the section if it was split into three sections- 1 section for those located in america, 1 section for those located in the UK, and 1 section for those who are located elsewhere in the world. I think by doing this it would make it a lot easier for people interested in buying, selling or swaping stuff etc as that way they could quickly and much more easily find threads in the section that are at least in their part of the world  .

The second idea is to split the section into 2 sections- simply have one section for people looking to buy/sell/swap fish, and one section for people looking to buy/sell/swap aquarium related things which are not fish, like tanks and tank equipment and related accesories or things like fish food and stuff etc.
I think that either one of these idea's could make the buy/sell/swap section a lot more organised and make it easier for people to find the things or fish that they interested in on the section  .
What do you think :) ?

I agree with point 1. splitting the buy/sell in country specific forums....it's done on a couple of the forums I go to already and it's far better and easier than the buy/sell here.

point one would be great s many people don't put there location anywhere in there topic or there profile :shout:

It would be so much easier if everyone would just put their location in the topic description..

Then there's no need to make new forums.

Yeah, but that's the thing, vancouver - people just don't.

Haha, I endorse this suggestion 100%. Im sick of finding nice stuff in the UK  The way we have it now would work if people actually read the pins but people don't like to read what they should.

Good idea

i dont really think its that much of the problem.

It would just clutter up the forum even more and tbh if people dont put their location then thats their problem as they will lose buyers.
I'm not really sure on the idea about having a UK part, a US part and an "others" part, as the forum is meant to be for anyone from any country, and having it like that would make it seem like a forum that is only suited to US and UK people.

That forum is probably the worst and most unorganized on this site..

Apparently it is moderated, but for some reason none of the rules are ever enforced.

I don't think separating the buy/sell/swap section into sections will have a negative impact on the friendliness/openess of the forum, afterall its not really an area of the forum where people come to talk about fishkeeping much, its just for buying/selling/swaping. I don't think people will lose buyers either, as if a buyer wants to ship fish or stuff abroad, they can just click on the section they want, on the other hand though most people don't want to ship stuff long distances abroad (particularly fish) and so would find the different sections handy in finding sellers in their part of the world.

Yeah i agree that either way, something really needs to be done on the moderation of that section of the forum- every week loads of threads are done with no indication of where the seller is located etc, and there is often little the mods do to change this. Its obviously the sellers mistake that they don't put any indication of where they are located, as there are clear guidelines, but its still the mods jobs to correct mistakes like this i think?

my point wasnt that people would lose buyers if the idea goes ahead, i was just saying that one of the biggest problems is people not putting their location, i dont really think this an issue for us to resolve as if people dont put their location then thats their loss because they wont get replies and good thing too as its their fault for doing so.

I never go in that section anymore...too much of a pain in my butt to navigate through stuff that should be fairly easy.

Yes, it's there loss. But the whole point is it's annoying for people having to go through almost every single post to find someone who is near them and selling fish / equipment. With a different subforum for uk and america I think it would make it a whole lot simpler. For the second idea though people already seem to put fish/equipment or whatever there selling so imo I don't think that is much of a problem. :good:

I'm not sure why there aren't any assigned mods. I'll make an effort to go through and edit in the locations this afternoon, and continuing after that. We'll see if we can improve it a bit, and if it doesn't work well, we can look into subforums. :)
