Just wondering, since that most people are still not putting their location in Topic Description when they post in Buy Sell and Swap if it could be divided further into regions or or countys/states.

Eg.

Buy Sell and Swap
---UK
-----* Will Post *
-----North East
-----Midlands
-----etc

or

Buy Sell and Swap
---UK
-----* Will Post *
-----Cumbria
-----Kent
-----etc

This may build up a bit of regional buying selling and swapping and will save a bit of time.

Tell me to get stuffed and its none of my business if you want. Just thought I would suggest it. :good:

Cheers.

good idea i think alot of people would prefer it but its probably loads of work to set it all up

Not sure but Im sure it would be worth it. You would be able to check on surorunding countys and states too. I really think that with all the members and support this forum has it could beat aquarist classifieds which is the only real alternative I know of to eBay (at least in the UK) in to the ground.

That would be ridiculous, there are dozens of counties in England alone, before you get into the rest of the UK or USA. There would be more forums just for buys/sell/swap than the rest of TFF and even then, the numpties would get it wrong! And of course if someone will post an item, you'd have to search every subforum to find it.

Personally I'd go for, if an advertiser can't follow the rule which states to put your location, then their advert is deleted (with a message informing them as to why).

Nice, simple and effective. All adverts will have a location or will be deleted :)

Well yes 47 counties plus the City of London according to Google but I dont know may people that live in 2 counties. or don't know which one they live in!

You would also be able to quickly look at those in driving range i.e. the counties next door.

I'm sure it would not bother our friends in the USA listing by state as most of their states are bigger than the UK anyway so hardly worth driving across for a bucket of gravel

That said you could still go with regions which would make less than 10.

So just the 10 subforums then?

The size of the USA makes it even more important that they have it split up than the UK, then there are the Canadians and Aussies who are also in massive countries.

What if I am selling something and am willing to post? I live in Midlands, but someone on the south coast wouldn't be looking in Midlands section for stuff, so I end up missing out on a potential buyer and they miss out on the super deal I have for them. If I'm looking to see what is for sale I'd then have to check every subforum to see what is available to post.

And there's the numbers involved, theres probably about 20 new things offered for sale in UK on a good day, is it worth having 10 additional subforums to cover that low level of posting?

All people have to do now is put their location in and they can't even follow that, how do you think they'll get on having 10 subforums to get it wrong in?

Once again, the simplest idea is delete any threads with the location missing, all the location problems are solved in one fell swoop. People will soon learn to fill it in properly if they have to retype the advert after having it deleted.

I live in two counties... im right on the hants/wilts boarder....

i live in wiltshire, but i have a hampshire address.

which one would i post in? :shifty:

Personally... if you really want the item being sold, you'll be able to click the mouse button TWICE (jeeeesus) and look at their profile to see where they come from. If it isnt on there, it takes 30 seconds to pm them.

Post it in both? Not hard to C + P

The premise of my post was that doing this would encourange more.

I've got faith, maybe misplaced that people will be able to choose where they live before posting.

Surely lots of work for the mods?

If live in Cumbria on the Border with Lancs. If I was looking for something in range then I would look in both Cumrbia and Lancs. So I would post in my own county. I would hope that most people know what county they are next to.

Sorry I cant reply to Fishyfeet because I don't have a clue what he/she is on about. Whats di mean??

Anyway, just thought it would be a good idea. Don't want to cause a fuss as I don't really care that much. There is always the 'distance' feature on eBay :zz

If people don't put locations in the title then it's their own problem.

definatley overcomplicating things, i agree it was good to divide up UK and USA, but don't think we need to go any further than that.

This is a forum, not a shop. If you're that bothered about buying/selling things, try Fleabay or similar, or just go to a shop... It would take more time and effort to sort out such a mess than it would to take a whole few seconds to ask where somebody is (if they're too stupid to have put it in the post itself). And if it isn't near you, tough luck.

What if I am selling something and am willing to post?

Post it in both? Not hard to C + P

Both? If there are 10 area based subforums as you suggested earlier I'd have to post in 10 seperate sections for that to work, well that makes life simple

And there's the numbers involved, theres probably about 20 new things offered for sale in UK on a good day.

The premise of my post was that doing this would encourange more.

But it's a fish forum with the facility for members to trade, if William was going to go to the hassle of setting up as a rival to eBay, I'm sure he'd want to charge like eBay do.

Once again, the simplest idea is delete any threads with the location missing,

Surely lots of work for the mods?

More than having to individually check 10 separate subforums for spammers?

But if you are selling, you'd need to make 2 posts, again complicating things.

All it would do is complicate matters for the sellers, buyers and mods. Simply deleting the incorrectly advertised threads would encorage compliance with the rules and make it easier for everyone. Keeping things simple is usualy the best option.
